The exhibition includes a striking large gold variant of the Reservoir Birds screenprint by pop artist Brad Novak, a commentary on the hybrid nature of our lives. Two painted studies by Graham Bennett were inspired by the bamboo sculptures in the exhibition ‘On the Brink’ following his 2024 residency in Japan – a fragmented world only just held together.
A selection of contemplative Roy Good works pays tribute to the documentary on his life in modernist art and design in the Resene Architecture and Design Film Festival; a Plain Song from his lifelong friend JS Parker (1945-2017) hangs alongside. Two intimate but exquisite paintings from Claire Beynon originated in her trip to Antarctica in 2006, while limited edition works from the Don Binney Estate, from Kathryn Madill and (masterful woodcuts) by Michel Tuffery provide a counterpoint in printmaking.
We also pay tribute to the energy of the late Philip Trusttum with a 2001 painting Maxim. Others can be viewed on request.
