Nigel Brown

This exhibition builds on Nigel Brown's two previous 'Organic Thinking' series, but now, he opts for action: the time for thinking is past. These powerful paintings pull no punches; his familiar characters work, talk, play, and embrace an organic life. A Covid sun hangs above them, more a metaphor for the impact of climate change than merely humankind dealing with a deadly virus - the state of the planet is a bigger issue. The works contain literary references, commentaries both subtle and hard-hitting, in a language of motifs, icons and double-entendre which is distinctly New Zealand, global in its view, and unmistakably the work of one of our most serious artistic thinkers.
