Because Life is Colour (II)

A celebration of colour and abstraction

JS Parker, Roy Good, Christine Gregory, Wayne Seyb
8 April - 7 May 2023

Preview: 8 April (Easter Saturday) 2-4pm

Because Life is Colour II is anchored by a glorious red inscape painting by JS Parker, joined by three other strong, individual artists who enjoyed a long and valued connection with him over many years – as friend and/or mentor: Roy Good, Christine Gregory, and Wayne Seyb.

Parker’s dynamic solo show in 2005, Because Life is Colour, was described as an exhibition that ‘exhilarates in colour as an expression of passion for life, debate and all things’. Which applies equally to this 2023 offering from all four artists.

Parker’s stunning 1997 Plain Song oil on canvas was a wonderful discovery, and we are delighted the family have agreed to its release. Likewise a high energy oil and pastel on paper, newly framed and shown here for the first time.

Christine Gregory and Wayne Seyb also use the landscape as a starting point for their works, with differing degrees of abstraction, above all revelling in colour, and intense light. Roy Good, friend and fellow student with Parker from university days, takes the most formal approach with a pure abstraction – again, a celebration of colour and form.

JS Parker (1944-2017) indicated he painted these high energy red paintings for their uplift – because to stand in the face of such intense colour, one could only feel positivity.

Which is a very good reason to come and experience that, at Easter weekend and beyond, simply Because Life is Colour indeed.
