About the Artist
Areta Wilkinson and Mark Adams (Canterbury, NZ) each have their own art practice but work collaboratively on photograms, which are created in a photographic darkroom but without camera or film, to produce a unique work effectively creating a shadow an object leaves where it has touched prepared photographic paper, a process developed in the 1880s.
This work is one of two unique photograms they created in 2016 of a pounamu tiki, which had been collected by Johann Reinhold Forster travelling with Cook in Queen Charlotte Sound (Totaranui) in Marlborough in 1773. It now resides in the Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford University, England.
